Considering your options

When enrolling in your benefits, it’s important that you carefully review your options, as well as the health and dental needs of you and your family. You are required to play an active role in selecting your coverage every year. This includes assessing your health and wellness needs and using your benefits budget to increase or decrease your coverage based on the evolving needs of you and your family.

Here are a few questions to consider when determining your coverage needs:

  • What regular prescriptions or paramedical services do you require?
  • What dental services do you use most often?
  • Would you rather pay out of pocket for health expenses as they come up, or pay upfront to be covered for unexpected expenses in the future?
  • Are you covered or eligible for benefits through another plan (e.g., spouse’s plan)?

These are just a few things to think about when choosing your benefits. Make sure to consider all your benefit needs before making your selection.

Once you’ve determined your health and wellness needs, you’ll use your benefits budget to purchase one of the following levels of coverage under the health and dental plans:

  • Economy – for those who want general coverage and only make a few health and dental-related claims throughout the year.
  • Select – for those who need a little more coverage above what is offered under Economy (e.g., frequent prescriptions).
  • Premium – for those who require even more coverage than what is offered under the Select option with higher reimbursement rates and maximums (e.g., paramedical services and basic dental services covered at 100%).
